Regional Unit of Evia delimited as the eastern boundary of the Region of Mainland Greece and consists of the island of Evia, Skyros Island, part of mainland of Central Greece and various islets. Its total area is 4.167,4 km², which is 3.16% of the total area of Greece. The total coastal length, including Skyros and all islets, is approximately 890 km.
Due to its geographical position, is adjacent to the national road of Athens - Thessaloniki and extends parallel with it. The natural advantage of the Regional Unit of Evia is its small distance from the capital of Greece (Athens). Capital of the Regional Unit is Chalkida, a city with history, built in a dominant position on the Boeotian and Evia coast, in the Strait of Euripus.
